We get our name from the late tenant of "The Queens Arms", Elsie Maynard, the last of that family to have run the pub since1913.

Known to many as "Annie`s", Elsie`s mother, while she was running the establishment it became "Elsie`s" to the new generation frequenting the place these later years. Elsie told us she was always aware of singers there and the "tradition" was carried on, helped by the "Sing and Play" evenings originally run by Ken Stubbs, singer and song collector. David and Tony`s experience in running folk clubs was instrumental in arranging for guests to perform at these nights when we took over following Ken`s departure to pastures new. We became known as "Elsie`s Band" being the resident musicians hosting the guests. The original members were Tony Deane, David Watts, Mike Hutchison and myself, John Hills. Following Mike`s untimely death Iris joined and we continued as four until we lost Tony in Jan.2015. We all feel their loss as dear friends and excellent band members.

In no time at all May the 1st will be upon us and, as per usual, David and I will be representing "Elsie`s Band" at Padstow to celebrate their "Obby `Oss" Festival. We look forward to meeting our good friends there, seeing many

acquaintances, enjoying the odd pint and joining in with the singing. "Oss,Oss We Oss."
